Mummy MOT

A Mummy MOT is a specialist postnatal examination for women following both vaginal and caesarean deliveries. It assesses how your posture, pelvic floor muscles and stomach muscles are recovering after birth. And if they’re not, then we can provide you with exercises and treatment to help in your recovery and to return to exercise safely.

The Postnatal MOT That You Deserve

Up to half of all women experience weakness in both the abdominal muscles and pelvic floor muscles after pregnancy and up to a third still have a tummy gap at eight weeks post-birth. This can cause instability or poor core strength leading to women developing pelvic or back pain or bladder, bowel and sexual dysfunction. These conditions should not be something you should just put up with as a result of having a baby.

It’s recommended that women have an initial assessment at 6-8 weeks postnatal, but we also treat women who gave birth years ago that may still have a tummy gap or related pelvic floor issues.

At our MSO Physio and Raynes Park Physio we have expert physios in safe professional spaces who can help you through this period of your life.

  • A full postural screen.
  • A check to ensure any caesarean or episiotomy wounds are recovering well.
  • A pelvic floor muscle assessment (if required)
  • An abdominal muscle exam to check for any separation.

‘’I came to see Jo Fordyce after the birth of my baby boy. She did a thorough check and worked with me on pelvic floor rehabilitation over the course of 12 weeks. I am very blessed and thankful for the results that we have achieved and will continue to follow her advice for exercise & diet. I would highly recommend her for new mums!’’

‘’Harriet has been great - providing tailored support both pre- and post-natally. As an amateur aerialist, I’ve been keen to maintain as much strength as possible, and get back up in the air asap. Harriet gave me the confidence to safely continue to train through my pregnancy, and then work through regaining strength after - including regaining pelvic floor strength and managing ab separation. Thank you!’’

‘’I have been seeing Jo Fordyce for approximately 4 months & I can honestly say it has been the best thing I have done. She is very easy to talk to & extremely knowledgeable & helpful. She has helped me physically & mentally & for that I am really grateful. All the staff at the practice are really helpful & accommodating.’’
